Wrinkly Bits

A Blog by Gail Cushman

I’ve been writing Wrinkly Bits blogs for almost five years. I started writing it in 2021, I think, or maybe 2022. I forget. It was during Covid, which kept people home doing things they hadn’t done before. I wrote two blogs a week for about three years, tapered off to one a week, but our traveling made it difficult to write even one a week. Now, wouldn’t you know it, I’ve run out of subjects. I got up this morning and asked Cowboy to supply a good blog subject. One that would be timely and funny and something I hadn’t written about before. He said, “Write about nothing,” so here I am, writing about nothing. Read on!

Timely. Whew. I don’t write about politics. Who wants to hear what I have to say about politics anyway? The TV has way too many pundits who rattle on about this or that. Timely could mean weather, but Montana is having a dry year, with just one snow storm. The grass is green. The fields are sprouting. I’m watching for the daffodils, which are sure to show up one of these days. Health issues. Ugh. Now that’s a downer. At age 79.9, I am done with health issues. If it hasn’t already been fixed, chances are it’s unfixable. My doctors are younger than my grandkids and I’m not sure I trust them.

Funny. Have you heard the one about…oops, I forget what I was going to say. Looking at funny is a lot more fun than looking at unfunny. When Cowboy and I got married, our wedding vows included, “Love, honor, and laugh,” which we have done and continue to do and our latest laugh-a-minute is the saga of making our morning cup of Joe. Through the years I have owned a dozen or more coffee pots. Percolators, Corning Ware, Mr. Coffee’s drip coffee makers, French press, and the ever-popular Keurig. In fact, we like them so well, in five years, we have owned at least six of them. Cowboy makes the morning coffee at our house, and although Keurig makes a great cup of coffee, we chucked it when our recently purchased top-rated Keurig bit the dust, or the proverbial coffee grounds. We are back to a Mr. Coffee. Easy peasy with a good flavor. Coffee is a staple in many American homes, including this one and the message “Needs De-scaling” can be tolerated only so many times and every three weeks is unacceptable. I’m not sure if our coffee saga is a funny story or not, but “new and improved” doesn’t necessarily work in our coffee making world.

Nothing. So now, I’m going to write about…nothing…like Seinfeld and Erma Bombeck. If you think about it, Nothing is Something. It’s there, just a void. Something you can’t see, smell, taste feel, or hear and sometimes it’s the best we can do! Cheers! Signing off for now! Gail

Wrinkly Bits A Blog by Gail Cushman Oh my gosh, I seldom get overwhelmed, but this week has blown me apart! Relatives, friends, and FB friends wished me a happy birthday, and I lost track of whom I said, “THANK YOU!” to and who I missed, but I do appreciate all who...
