Busy Times

I was busy all day yesterday, but looking back, I don’t remember a lick of what I did. I can tell you what I didn’t do: I didn’t write my Christmas cards. I didn’t clean our house. I didn’t do the laundry. I didn’t even get the mail. I’ve now coerced the Cowboy into doing the dishes, and he’s a much better bed-maker than I, so those two items didn’t happen either. What’s wrong with me? I am sure that I didn’t waste time because that’s not in my nature, but I’ll be danged if I can recall yesterday’s activities. I know I filled the day with something, but what?

I asked Cowboy Bob what I did, and he just shrugged, “It was yesterday. It’s gone. We only have today, so why worry about it?” Some help he is! I figure he can’t remember yesterday, either. It’s the curse of the wrinklies, I guess.

Okay, then, today. My question is what do I do today that will be worthy of remembering? I don’t want to do the gigs I didn’t do yesterday, Christmas cards, cleaning, and washing clothes. I don’t want to walk a mile or two when it is 8 degrees outside with a wind chill factor of 4 degrees. So, I made a list, you know how I am with lists. Actually two. What I should do and what I’m not going to do.

Today my to-do list includes stuff that I like to do…like write this blog, even though it apparently is, once again like Seinfeld, about nothing. I like to eat, so maybe I’ll make some sugar-free Jello. It doesn’t have calories or carbs and tastes good, except it jiggles when I eat it, reminding me of Aspen trees, which reminds me of spring, which reminds me that it isn’t spring. Strike that.

I am writing queries for potential publishers, which I don’t really like to do, but I need to do it if I’m ever going to join the ranks of Stephen King. I’ll leave it on the list, at least until noon. The queries are for our new book, Widows and Widowers   Dancing With a New Partner. I need to look up the word “with.”  Is it capitalized or not? I’ll put it on my list. I used to know, but now, have forgotten. Maybe my mean editor or one of my English teacher friends will advise me. Thank you very much!  I’ll do a Scarlet O’Hara and “think about it tomorrow.”

I can watch the birds, look for deer, and watch the news, except the news depresses me, so I’m crossing that one off, too.

I have a lot on my Do Not Do list, including anything to do with cleaning, washing, or folding. I thought about calling my brothers, but nixed it, it’s Friday and they do stuff for their wives on Friday.

But, wait! Good news, Cowboy Bob just reminded me that it is time to leave for our Friday date. We’re going to Billings!  That means shopping!  And now, can toss my lists and concentrate on dolling up for a trip to the big city!

Woo hoo!  It won’t be a wasted day after all!

Brain Drain or What Would Cody Do?

I don’t know about everyone else, but some days, my brain feels empty, like it needs a shot of something, OJ or something stronger. Coffee doesn’t quite do it, and tea never has, so what to do? My brain drain began Monday and worsened as the week wore on. By yesterday...
