Things I Love

My blogs seem to run the gamut, often about the frustrations that I, and many readers, have about where we are in life, a little stiff, a little fuzzy, and a little confused by it all. But tonight, as I sit imbibing a glass of wine with a book on my lap, and Cody snoring on Cowboy Bob’s lap, I want to write about the opposite, the things I love about where we are in life. And there are many.

It is so enjoyable to talk to old friends, people we have known since childhood, like Loretta and Melinda and Carol, lovely friends who lived next door in my formative years, went to high school with, and I still hear from regularly. Technology has made that possible. Yes, we all get frustrated with passwords and ads and getting thrown in the FB slammer, (I was in twice this week) but somehow, we sort them out.

I am proud to be able to say things like, “Been there, done that,” because I have done it, enjoyed the opportunities, which spurs me to want more. I should have been born an Italian instead of German, because I love pasta and my German ancestors ate boiled potatoes. Let’s face it, lasagna beats potato stew any day of the week. Yikes, I can’t believe I said that. I’ve been dieting since I was fourteen, but enough is enough.

I love adventures, doing something new and different every week, even simple things like watching the deer eat out of the bird feeder just before dark or trying to figure out a substitute for $7.00 a head lettuce. (Is that everywhere or just a Montana special?)

I love writing and dearly love hearing thoughts of other people. It’s such a joy. And holidays, aren’t they the best? Thanksgiving is my favorite but decking the halls with a Santa hat atop my head is fun, too.  I seriously think both holidays should be moved to summer, though, because of cold and snow and icy roads, but no one would listen to me even if I made a big stink about it.  They’d just say, “Don’t pay attention to her, she’s just a crazy old woman from the 60s.”  Now that’s something we can be proud of: burning our bras! Woo hoo! Miniskirts and white boots, peace symbols and fantastic music…you know who I’m talking about—Elvis, the Beatles, the Righteous Brothers, and Cher!  They still top my love list.

Maybe I’d love being called a crazy old woman, too, you know the type, hair sticking out all angles, different colored socks, platform shoes, glasses held together with tape, and missing one of the mandatory hearing aids.

Well, maybe I don’t like that picture I just painted, but I think we can appreciate all that we have, wherever we are in life. Especially happiness and health.

This will be my last blog for a couple weeks. I am going on vacation, followed by cataract surgery.  Happiness and health! Good things for sure!
