Wrinkly Bits

A Blog by Gail Cushman

Three years! Fifteen edits! Lot of tears, frustration, and now joy. It’s out! On Amazon, Kindle, and Kindle Unlimited.

Murder on the Rez is fiction, the story Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women issue. It is an all-too-common issue, and is listed as a priority on every tier of law enforcement from Tribal Police to the FBI, yet it still survives.

Here’s a quick sample, a blurb:

“He’s is gonna cut me, he bought me,” the terrified young woman whimpers as she hides in Maggie’s SUV, stopped at a remote truck stop on the Montana Interstate. Detective Maggie Monroe is taking leave to see her sons in Montana when she is pulled into the vicious and deadly scourge of human trafficking of Native American women. Now widowed, Maggie only wants to visit her sons when she encounters May Skyeyes, a victim of age-old slave trade, which is now enhanced by the Internet and blurred jurisdictional lines. She discovers greed, corruption, and prejudice in her attempt to return May to her home on the Crow Reservation, which lies next to Montana’s largest city. The more she learns, the more her moral compass kicks in, pulling her into this shadow-world of human trafficking. In a surprising twist, her son’s girlfriend, Chaka Red Wolf, disappears and the evil becomes personal. The dark web, an Internet auction of Native women, the Tribal Police chief, the local Sheriff, and FBI converge in a western-style shoot-out in the foothills of Montana.

You might ask, “Why did it take you three years to write this book?” That’s a good question, and the answer is that finding and accessing information about Murdered and Missing Indigenous Woman is difficult. Jurisdiction. Secrets. Shame. The Red hand symbol over the mouth designates the secrecy of MMIW…yet it’s everywhere.

I ask you to share this email…to friends, family, acquaintances. Human trafficking of any type is an important issue, heard on the nightly news.

When you buy the soft cover book, Kindle, or Kindle Unlimited, please leave a comment on Amazon. If you use a library, ask the librarian to order it. To move the book forward on the Amazon display, I need a hundred reviews! They are the lifeblood of this writer! Please help me!

Enjoy this Book Five of the Maggie Monroe series. I moved her to Montana, opened up some new stories, new love and yup, some really bad guys!
