Wrinkly Bits
A Blog by Gail Cushman
Ready or not, here it comes, another January, another set of resolutions, and another set of anticipations, as to what 2024 will bring.
I make resolutions every January, always the same ones, something about exercise and weight, and two weeks into the New Year, I toss them out, like a dog burying a bone. I won’t even remember what they are, let alone how to achieve them. I’d ask for help except that I’d have to pretend to listen, and I’d forget those conversations, too.
This year I am forgetting the weight and exercise business and am making resolutions that I will enjoy, I mean, really, really enjoy. I’m thinking about being a kinder and gentler Gail. Now that would be great, but I already know it’s doomed for failure because A. It isn’t measurable and B. we had a President who tried it, and although it might have worked for him, it didn’t work for me. I tried but I think I failed. Scratch that.
I would like to have more energy, but that goes back to the old diet and exercise thing. Brussel sprouts and jumping jacks. Cody doesn’t like either of them, nor does the Cowboy and I don’t suppose that cheesecake and lobster are on the list of high energy foods. But, it’s a thought.
How about more volunteering to help other people and causes? Volunteering is a wonderful thing and I have volunteered a lot during my lifetime. For me, right now, if I were to spend more time volunteering, time and opportunity for writing books and blogs would diminish and they are what I really love, so I’m nixing that.
I asked the Cowboy what I should resolve…he hemmed and hawed a bit, you know, as Cowboys do, “Well, Miss Gail, I don’t know anything about resolutions, but I’ve got a couple trees to trim and the sun is shining and I want to enjoy this warm weather, so I’m headed out to take care of business. Don’t worry about resolutions, just do it.” Good advice from a wise man.
Well, the Cowboy and I are anticipating a great 2024. We have lots of things to do, people to see, books to write, and grandchildren to spoil. Resolutions or not, we’ll fill it up and soon it will be December of 2024. We’ll look back and wonder if we did our best to make the world a better place and figure out what to do for 2025. Kinder, gentler, more energetic, or helping others. Or trimming the trees and bushes when they need it. Wonderful resolutions.
Happy New Year! Make 2024 the best yet!
