Wrinkly Bits
A Blog by Gail Cushman
An Amazon Prime truck has shown up twice in the last 24 hours, each time bringing me a present. This is good, cuz I love presents, especially surprise presents. I could hardly wait and ripped it open. Who would be sending me a present. It was Mother’s Day, a gift from somebody I had given birth to, not that either of them remembered and both call me out on it from time to time. The truck said plainly, “Delivery Truck.” It was white with the Prime arrow, but other than that, non-descript.
“Cowboy, did you send me a present?” He does that occasionally, but he usually prefaces it with something like, “Wait till you see what I ordered,” and I play the waiting game. But I had no such conversation recently. I think he figured it was my kids’ turn to buy me presents.
Anyway, I opened the package, no paperwork. My name was on the Prime envelope, but nowhere did it say who the sender was. But the present was great! It was a Scrabble game, Vintage edition. I love Scrabble because it is the only game I can win on a regular basis. Cole can beat me, but only because he memorized all the two-letter words in the dictionary. I was stumped, but oh well, Cowboy and I would play a game sometime soon, I’ll win, and he’ll say, “Let’s play chess” which I can’t play because it takes brain power and planning. We have two chess sets and I can’t win with either. Cowboy just laughs when I complain they are broken.
Today, the same white truck pulled up, Delivery Truck, with the prime arrow. “Are you Gail?” the driver said, and tossed me a package, smaller this time. “Cowboy, did you send me a present?” I asked. “Nope,” he answered as we ripped it open, and found a Crystal bracelet, really pretty. No paperwork, no return address, no sender’s name.”
It occurred to me that Amazon, which has every system in the world available to fix problems might know who sent them, so I tried. AI answered the phone. “If you got free stuff, keep it” was what they said (edited version). I’m happy! But, I am curious…Cool presents and I’ll enjoy the heck out of them, so Thank You, whomever you are. Wonderful presents…and now I wonder, “What will tomorrow bring?” I don’t really need anything…but I still love surprises!
Thank you to all who accessed the free books that Cowboy provided. Mostly it worked, but there were a few glitches! He’s gonna try again.
