Another Day, Another Adventure

Crazy us. We were up at 6, downed a protein drink and some Keurig coffee made in a French press (ummm), and we were off for a new adventure. This time we are crossing Lake Oneida, which is 20 miles, east to west. Currently, we are in the middle and can see the north and south but not the east/west shores. It has been rather bumpy, but Cowboy smiles and says, “Don’t complain, it will get worse.” When we first met, he asked if I could swim…now I know why🙄🙄🙄

The trip is going well though. Tonight we’ll be on the lookout for laundry, because I’ll be forced to wear my bathing suit all day, every day, from here on out if I don’t. Which reminds me about my shower situation. Here are my choices: campground/marine showers which remind me of 7th grade PE showers and the teacher saying, “Get back in there, you aren’t even wet, Gail” or choice #2 which are bathing suit showers on the back deck of our small boat for all to see. Last night I scared three little girls away when they saw this old lady in a bathing suit. I could have worn my bikini and really freaked them out. I heard one say, “I never saw so many wrinkles.”

“Just wait, honey,” I yelled back before they started running. Their time will come.

Thankfully, Cowboy is a great captain and get us where we want to go, even if it is after wearing the same bathing suit day in and day out and frightening the young ‘uns along the way!

Two days later…more on the shower challenge. Tuesday the 4th of July…

Tonight, our assigned shower stall is in the fire department. I’m not kidding. The Lyons NY fire department has a big sign on the door, “boaters welcome to use our showers.” I just don’t think I can do it, although it is tempting because there were a couple of Oo-La-La firemen hanging out in the fireman lounge area, and the chief fireman showed me a shower labeled “they.” I recently read that the word “they” is an acceptable pronoun for a single woman, so I guess that’s my pronoun, should I choose to accept this mission. Cowboy’s shower had “men” on the door, so I guess that’ll work for him.

Another odd thing I ran into…no fireworks, legal or illegal. Evidently they were shot off on July 2, two days before the appointed day of July 4. And today, the fourth of July, nothing was open, it is like a ghost town. Except for the few firemen. And no fireworks. Dang…

We’ve been gone for about two weeks and seen a ton of things. I learned about boating and locks and all sorts of other interesting things, but the Cowboy and I are getting anxious to get home.
